At Congee Village extra special care goes into the selection and preparation of our dishes.

Original ancient recipes are the common ground for pretty much everything in our menu and of course the quality of the food is our main goal.

Selection of fresh and natural ingredients, cooking times, cleaneness etc are all priorities in the Congee Village kitchen.

This is not your average restaurant. All our employees are original Chinese and so is our food.

Cantonese cuisine is considered to be China's finest regional cooking style.

There is an antique Cantonese saying: "Anything that walks, swims, crawls, or flies with its back to heaven is edible". If you want to learn more about Chinese Cantonese cuisine please look for the book "The Chinese Kitchen by Eileen Yin-Fei Lo".

Food expert and freelance writer Rhonda Parkinson wrote: "For many of us, our first introduction to Chinese cooking came through dining at a restaurant featuring Cantonese cuisine. It's hardly surprising that Cantonese cooking was the first Chinese regional cuisine to take hold in the United States. After all, the original Chinese immigrants were mainly Cantonese coming to work on the railroads in the 1800's. [...] Authentic Cantonese cooking is considered superior to all other Chinese regional cuisines. A Cantonese chef would consider it a culinary sin of the highest order to produce a dish that was overcooked or too heavily seasoned. In fact, an emphasis on preserving the natural flavor of the food is the hallmark of Cantonese cuisine. Therefore, it's not surprising that many dishes are stir-fried or steamed, as both these cooking methods allow foods to retain their natural taste. Situated in an area with abundant rainfall and a tropical climate, Cantonese cooks have a wide range of ingredients available to them. It is paramount that these be as fresh as possible. [...] However, the Cantonese are also very inventive, and happy to incorporate nonnative ingredients in their cooking. Artistic presentation and garnishing are also very important".
